travel diary – puerto rico
San Juan
Towards the end of Summer, I went to Puerto Rico with my family and I loved it. Here are some of my favorite parts of the trip :-).
El Yunque National Forest
All I can say is wow. When the tour guide said that the only way he could explain the rainforest was a “religious experience”, he wasn’t kidding. I walked out of the tour bus and all I saw was green. We hiked through the forest and were able to swim in La Mina Falls at the bottom of the hike. It’s honestly crazy how beautiful nature is, but we rarely seem to truly experience it.
Old San Juan
In Old San Juan, we visited the Castillo San Felipe del Morro, a 16th century fort built by Spain to protect San Juan from attacks. When you get inside, there are signs throughout the place with historical information on the fort. Overall, it was a beautiful day and a beautiful fort. We also walked throughout the city and enjoyed the shops and the culture. It was so full of vibrant color and energy and I loved it.
Isla Verde Beach
The hotel we stayed at was on Isla Verde Beach, so that is the only beach we were at for the trip. The water was surprisingly perfect-not too hot and not too cold- and the waves were super fun to ride and relax in. Overall, the beach impressed us and is a major reason we are looking at going back to Puerto Rico at some point.
Puerto Rico was a super fun trip and I’d love to do it again. The flight was short, the people were always smiling, and the water was amazing.
Remember…spread LOVE!!
